If you are on campus, we offer both quiet and not-so-quiet study spaces and a new cafe, Stir & Bustle. You can recharge with coffee, tea, -hot, cold, and blended- and food items for study breaks. Bring your laptop or phone charger and plug in while you meet up or study. If you need to print an assignment for your class, you may send the print job to CardSwipe and pick it up at one of our printers on your way to class. We also have five library desktop computers.
Our goal is to help you develop the skills to be successful in your college career and to find the joy in learning that will help you become a lifelong learner. I invite you to begin the journey by exploring the library website (google Deets Library) or by visiting the library on SC’s main campus in Winfield, KS. Our Library Team includes students who can help answer your questions and provide access to physical items. I’m happy to help you with your current research and to introduce you to the friendly help of librarians on 24/7 Chat (Ask A Librarian) found on this page and others.
Keep learning, keep connecting with people!
Marjorie Snyder, Library Director
Students will leave Southwestern College with the skill and desire to be lifelong learners.
The Harold and Mary Ellen Deets Library supports the mission and vision of Southwestern College.
The team at Deets Library encourages lifelong learning by collaborating to advance students’ information literacy and research methods. The library team supports individual and community research advancing the curriculum of SC courses and activities. The library team does this by providing a welcoming space, by being there for patrons to answer questions with local knowledge, and by coordinating your access to physical and online resources.
The current library was built in 1950 with a cornerstone from our Memorial Library, 1885-1950. The library was renovated in 2008 and rededicated in honor of Harold and Mary Ellen Deets, both of the class of 1943. Its three floors contain conference rooms, classrooms, study and reading areas, collections of books, dvds, and cds; and the college’s archives. There is a cafe on the main floor, Stir & Bustle- serving coffee, tea, soda, and food items-with seating for meeting and studying. The virtual library offers access to e-books, e-journals, and databases for the college community.
